I posted episode 6 of Read Between The Leading last night. I got a chance to talk about my distaste for Arial with type designer Mark Simonson. If you’ve ever read this blog before, perhaps you’ve caught a few posts about how I’m not a fan of Arial. We also got a chance to ask Mark about his own typefaces and talked a bit about the call for a rupee symbol.
On this episode we have special guest Mark Simonson join us. We talk to Mark a bit about his work in type design (Felt Tip Roman, Proxima Nova, Coquette, Mostra), we discuss his article The Scourge of Arial, we touch upon the call for a Rupee symbol, and finally we address our questions from the last show (name the at sign and the postmodern typeface) where we announce a winner for the Helvetica moleskin.
We’re also looking for prizes to give out in future shows, so if you’d like to donate a prize to the show, please give us an email (readbetweentheleading@gmail.com). We’re also going to be doing a special question and answer show during the week, so if you’d like to participate, call in before Wednesday with a question or comment at 646-402-5686 extension 20248. Finally, we’ve done a lot to improve our audio this week. Thanks to everyone for their feedback and thanks so much for sticking with us.
