I’d been looking for something like this for some upcoming ideas I’ve got for Turn Nocturnal. Works with Authorize.net.

The struggle to adequately render letterforms on a pixel grid is a familiar one, and an ancient one as well… Renaissance ‘lace books’ have much to offer the modern digital designer, who also faces the challenge of portraying clear and replicable images in a constrained environment. Ostaus’s alphabet follows the cardinal rule of bitmaps, which is to always reckon the height of a capital letter on an odd number of pixels.

This is Al Green doing a cover of I Want to Hold Your Hand. I originally found this on Soul Sides Vol. 2. I’ve heard this song covered plenty of times, but this one stands out.

A CNN article about Zach Galifianakis. Is the mainstream starting to notice him? He’s been my favorite comedian for years. I think just by the nature of his act though he’ll always be an underground favorite and cast in movies that never fully capture his potential. I do hope he remains the comedy connoisseur’s little secret. The rest of the world can have their Dane Cooks and Jeff Dunhams…

That being said, I can’t wait to see Visioneers. Maybe a starring role can shed some light on his talent. The trailer looks strange enough that it could be possible…

Reblog vs. Comment

I recently made the switch from my blog at pixelspread to focus on matt.cc. There are a few reasons that made the decision seem pretty simple. First and foremost, Tumblr has quickly become my favorite blogging engine. It makes posting quick and simple, it allows for multiple post types,  the theming system is simple and straight forward, and it has a great community.

Secondly, I wanted to divide my personal blog and my design portfolio. I felt it was a bit more professional to keep the two slightly separate, especially when pointing clients to my portfolio, I felt routing them throw a blog isn’t the best way to show off my work.

Lastly, I’m starting to see comments as more of a hassle than a feature. I found myself installing multiple spam filters and would still have to spend a half hour or more a week deleting the spam comments that leaked through. I’ve found that Tumblr’s system of reblogging is a win-win. You don’t have to take responsibility of others’ comments, they aren’t hosted on your site, and you get free links back from other sites. And of course the benefit for the reblogger is that they get some content for their own site.

If you were subscribed to the matt.cc feed, everything is the same. If you were subscribed to the pixelspread feed, I’ve started routing select articles from matt.cc into that feed, so you’ll be getting similar content to what I would have posted on the pixelspread blog.

Happy birthday, Joe!

Vice-President-elect Joe Biden turned 66 years old today. To celebrate, President-elect Barack Obama surprised him at the Transition’s Chicago headquarters yesterday with cupcakes, candles, and a stirring rendition of Happy Birthday. Happy Birthday, Joe!

The last track I posted from Soul Sides got quite a few reblogs, so here’s one from Volume 1. This is Donnie Hathaway doing a cover of John Lennon’s Jealous Guy. This is definitley the stand out track from Volume 1. I highly suggesting picking up both volumes if you’ve liked this track and the Al Green track.
